US retail sales rise less than expected in March

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The US Census Bureau announced today that retail sales in March rose 0.9%, compared to the expectation of a 1.1% gain. The February retail sales figure has been revised upwards to -0.5% from -0.6%.

Total sales for the January 2015 through March 2015 period were up 2.2% from the same period a year ago. Meanwhile, Retail sales Ex-auto rose 0.4% in March, missing the estimate of a 0.7% gain. . Food services and drinking places were up 7.7% from March 2014 and building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers were up 6.3% from last year.

Wholesale prices rise

Elsewhere, another set of data showed, wholesale prices in the US climbed in March for the first time in five months. The 0.2% gain in the producer price index followed a 0.5% drop the prior month, a Labor Department report showed Tuesday.

USD/JPY hits 1-week low after retail sales miss

USD/JPY turned lower and fell to fresh lows as the dollar weakened after data showed US retail sales grew less than anticipated in March.
